**WRITE TO YOUR LOCAL COUNCILLORS TO REQUEST THAT NO ACTION IS TAKEN ON RESIDENTS' PARKING WITHOUT A FAIR AND PROPER PUBLIC CONSULTATION**

The consultation carried out in the summer was widely criticised as biased and unfair. You are represented by two Bristol City Councillors. Please follow this link to find their contact details and request that no action is taken on Residents' Parking without a fair and proper consultation:

**ATTEND THE BRISTOL CITY COUNCIL MEETING AT 5.30PM ON MONDAY 5TH JANUARY 2009 AT THE COUNCIL HOUSE, COLLEGE GREEN**

Thank you to everyone who has attended any of the recent meetings at the Council House. For most of us they have been eye-opening experiences but without that support we may not be where we are today.

On November 27th Bristol City Council’s ruling Labour Cabinet resolved to go ahead with two large Residents’ Parking ‘pilot zones’, in Clifton and Kingsdown.

However, the decision is not final and can be reversed. The decision has been ’called-in’ (part of the Council’s democratic process) by Conservative councillors, which puts it on hold pending further scrutiny.

The next step is a cross-party ‘call-in’ meeting (open to the public), set for 5.30pm on Monday 5th January 2009 at the Council House, which has the power to refer the decision to the full Council. And the make-up of the full Council means that the opposition parties can overturn the decision.

The decision to go ahead with the pilot zones was based on a public ‘consultation’ carried out during the summer holidays, which was widely criticised as biased and unfair. Liberal Democrat councillors said they were ‘disappointed with the quality of the consultation’, that it was ‘flawed’ and either ‘a sham or a shambles’. This was confirmed by a well-known polling organisation that told us the questionnaire ‘lacks objectivity and makes unwarranted assumptions’.

It is simply unacceptable to base any decision on a flawed consultation. We believe the Council must go back and undertake a fair and proper public consultation.

Please come and support us at 5.30pm on Monday 5th January at the Council House, College Green
